“Treat a man as he is, he will remain so. Treat a man the way he can be and ought to be, and he will become as he can be and should be.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote these words in the 1800’s, they still hold as much weight now as l am sure they did then. I think parents, teachers, managers and leaders in society can glean a lot from this maxim. It changes everything. If parents stopped saying “l am trying to raise my kids” and instead said “I am trying to raise up children who will be upstanding men and women, who contribute their talents to society.” That brings about a paradigm shift in the way we approach dealing with our children’s problems.
See the potential in others, nurture that and today’s heartaches will become history.
